As we were there during low season many things were not available at the moment because it was still hurricane season.
Even though many tours were not available we still filled our days and went in a tiny boat to the reef for snorkeling, walked the length of the island every day, ate well and we went to The Great Blue Hole in a small plane with Tropic Air. I must add that we were pretty lucky that the weather was on our side as Tropic Air is only flying to the giant marine sinkhole from November.

The Blue Hole was one of the things to do on my bucket list, so you can just imagine how I was feeling in that moment. I think nothing could have stopped me, not even Niels who was a bit sick.

Caye Caulker in general was great, the people of Caye are amazing, the food was exquisite and we ate so much lobster… I couldn’t believe that it was so cheap in comparison to at home; I actually don’t buy it at home as it is really expensive.

I mentioned food a couple of times now. Here are our favorite places:
1. Dee D’s: This is the best, we were attended by Brent and Sean: amazing boys, we had a good laugh, the food was great, drinks super tasty. This is a small restaurant next to the water you should not miss when on the island. As usual I had to eat lobster as it is my favorite; the good thing is that they open it and cook it in the moment not like in many places they are ready to serve but you don’t know for how long the lobster was sitting on the grill.

2. Maggie’s Sunset kitchen: We also had a lovely dinner here, by the water sharing the table with other guests. I ate conch and it was one of the things I never had before.

3. We ate at a restaurant with a Chinese owner and this is where Niels got sick we think. Normally I am the one with a quick reaction when it comes to food poisoning. I again ate lobster (me laughing) but it was in the dry side unfortunately. Niels ate a fish which it apparently was not really fresh.

4. Yes, of course we went to The Split bar and they offered good drinks but the food was very greasy. The Split it self is really nice where the water colors are spectacular, everybody in a fantastic mood and even the swimming was great.

Overall good food and we had the most memorable time during the whole trip.

For us is Caye Caulker the best place to visit on Earth and we cannot wait to go back one day 🙂
